SIPONO APPLICATION AS AN INNOVATION IN LEARNING MEDIA OF JAVANESE VOCABULARY PRONUNCIATION

Phonological errors in both writing and pronouncing Javanese vocabulary are errors that often occur in various circles of society, especially among students. Errors generally occur in typical Javanese phonemes, namely /a/, /ɔ/, /d/, /D/, /t/, /T/, /e/, /Ə/, and /Ɛ/. This phenomenon can certainly hinder students from achieving Javanese language learning competencies. If this phenomenon is allowed to continue, it can also threaten the existence of good and correct use of the Javanese language in everyday life. One of the contributing factors is the limited availability of learning media. Therefore, there is a need for innovation in the development of technology-based media that can support Javanese language learning. This research aims to describe the development and implication of using the SIPONO application in Javanese language learning at schools, making it a technology-based medium that supports competency achievement. This research uses mixed methods. A qualitative approach is used to obtain problem data and analyze the needs of learning media and a quantitative approach is used to obtain trial data on the use of the application. Data collection techniques included questionnaires and interviews. The informants in this study were linguists, Javanese language teachers, and students. The validity of the data was tested by triangulating the sources. The data analysis technique was carried out with a flow analysis model. The results of the study describe: (1) the development of the Android-based SIPONO application is carried out through the design, design, production, and trial stages; and (2) the SIPONO application has positive implications and can support Javanese language learning as a medium for pronouncing Javanese vocabulary for students. Thus, the SIPONO application is a flexible, android-based media innovation for learning the pronunciation of Javanese vocabulary as well as an effort to preserve the Javanese language through education.

STRENGTHENING SCIENCE VOCABULARY OF GRADE 10 STUDENTS IN POST-PANDEMIC LEARNING THROUGH PROJECT SCIVOC

Pandemic has posed many challenges to society, especially in the education sector. In the conduct of the face-to-face classes after the two years of distance learning, it was evident that the learners had difficulty in understanding Science-related terms. This study focused on a strategy, namely “Project SciVoc: 1 Minute to Define It!”, a game-based activity which aims to help Grade 10 learners understand Science concepts. In every session, students were given a minute to write down all the terms and corresponding definitions they had learned from the previous lessons. Selected Grade 10 students of Plaridel Integrated National High School were the respondents of the study. Mixed methods of quantitative and qualitative research were utilized. For quantitative data, learners’ scores in a long quiz on topics on Plate Tectonics with and without the implementation of the project for the First Quarter of the School Year 2022-2023 was compared. Students had also answered questionnaires using Google Form for their insights of the said activity. The results revealed a significant increase on learners’ score in their long quiz in Plate Tectonics when Project SciVoc was implemented. The results implicate that (1) learners’ vocabulary can be strengthened through game-based activity; (2) learners’ vocabulary can be enhanced through a routine; and (3) learners’ experience and feelings during the activity help them remember and understand concepts. Strengthening learner’s vocabulary is a must for our learners to understand concepts in different learning areas and can be achieved in a collaborative effort of learners, teachers, and community.

ON-THE-JOB TRAINING PROGRAM EFFECTIVENESS AND PERFORMANCE OF BSIT STUDENTS OF CSU GONZAGA

This study aimed to assess the On-the-Job Training (OJT) program effectiveness and performance of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) students at Cagayan State University (CSU) Gonzaga campus. Specifically, it sought to determine the profile of the respondents, their overall perception of the effectiveness of the OJT program, their level of OJT performance, and the potential relationships between these variables. The study employed descriptive-correlational techniques and collected data through questionnaire and Performance Evaluation Reports (PERs). The analysis included aspects such as pre-deployment orientation, work assignment, monitoring from school, training and support from agencies, cooperation among trainees, and evaluation and post-deployment activities. The research revealed that trainees perceived the OJT program to be very effective overall, with specific aspects such as pre-deployment orientation, work assignment, monitoring, and cooperation being particularly effective. The respondents also demonstrated excellent performance in various OJT aspects, including quality of work, job knowledge, and human relations. Notably, academic performance (GPA) was found to be positively correlated with OJT performance, suggesting that higher academic achievement correlates with better OJT performance. Moreover, the effectiveness of training and support from agencies positively influenced the quantity of work and human relations performance. This study's implications for the College of Information and Computing Sciences (CICS) and higher education are significant. It emphasizes OJT's role in enhancing practical skills and bridging academics with real-world skills. A strong link exists between academic performance and OJT success, underlining the need for rigorous educational standards. Insights on effective OJT, like agency support and collaboration, can enhance programs for better career readiness. Overall, the study underscores experiential learning's value and industry-academic collaboration in higher education.

THE EFFECT OF MEDIA EXPOSURE ON STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH

Advances in technology combined with the emergence of the proliferation of social media have facilitated public access to all information to find out. Students are active users of technology and social media. As active users, many students are exposed to social media which can cause worry and fear if they experience similar incidents in the future, causing stress and mental health problems. This study aims to find out how social media is exposed to students' mental health. The theory used in this study is social media literacy and media analysis models. With social media literacy skills, students not only know how to retrieve and process information appropriately in various social settings but can maintain mental health in dealing with excess and uncertainty of information. The research methodology used is quantitative with experimental methods on two groups of students who experience mental health disorders. The results showed that media exposure had a significant effect on students' mental health. Students admit that they are easily influenced by social media. This is shown by the ease with which their moods change after reading information from social media. Students are also addicted to social media, so they lack sleep. Another effect is that they easily doubt, lack confidence, and feel imperfect after reading posts on social media.
